Anime Review: Tanaka-kun is Always Listless

April 15, 2018

Tanaka is your average high school boy. He gets carried to school by his friend. He sleeps at school and gets carried home by his friend. Okay, so maybe he’s not average. Tanaka isn’t exactly lazy. He just doesn’t see the point in doing anything. The trouble to walk home after school is too much effort, so why bother? Just stay where you are and fall asleep.

Unfortunately for Tanaka, he is surrounded by energetic people who want to be his friend and get him to be energetic just like them. Foremost by a girl from his class, Miyano, who wants to become just as listless as him. So she declares that she will become Tanaka’s apprentice, despite his refusal as it would be too much trouble for him.

There isn’t exactly much story to this show. It’s still rather fun to watch because I can see aspects of my own life in Tanaka’s laziness – as we all probably could. Each episode brings a new obstacle to Tanaka’s desire to have a lazy carefree life. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t one of those shows that made me want to binge watch the entire show all at once. It actually took a bit of time to get through it. But that worked out fine as there was no real plot that spanned from one episode to the next so watching them over a period of time worked out well.
